Abstract
1,150,340. Treating cracked gas. CONTINENTAL OIL CO. 24 Oct., 1967 [5 Jan., 1967], No. 48349/67. Heading C5E. Cracked normally gaseous hydrocarbon streams (predominantly C 4 and lighter) containing undesirable quantities of mercaptans and olefins are simultaneously desulphurized and hydrogenated by treatment at a pressure of 150-250 psig with a stoichiometric excess of hydrogen, said excess being 30% or less, in the presence of a hydrotreating catalyst, e.g. cobalt molybdate, molybdenum sulphide, molybdenum oxide, a nickel-molybdenum oxide, a nickel-cobalt oxide, a nickel-tungsten oxide, nickel sulphide or tungsten sulphide. The temperature may be 500-800‹ F., and the space velocity 750-1200 standard cu.ft. of total gas/hour/cu. ft. catalyst. In an example this treatment is applied to a mixture of off-gases from a variety of refinery sources.
