1,150,245. N,N<SP>1</SP>-substituted piperazines. CHINOIN GYOGYSZER ES VEGYESZETI TERMEKEK GYARART. 28 Feb., 1967 [4 March, 1966; 30 Dec., 1966 (2)], No. 9553/67. Heading C2C. Novel substituted piperazines of Formula I wherein R<SP>1</SP> is a 5- or 6-membered heterooyclic radical containing at least one nitrogen atom or a phenyl group unsubstituted or substituted by one or two substituents, which may be the same or different, and are halogen, alkyl, or alkoxy, with the proviso that when n is 1 and R<SP>2</SP> is hydrogen at least one of the above-mentioned substituents is present, R<SP>2</SP> is hydrogen or an alkyl radical, R<SP>3</SP> is an alkyl radical and n is 0 to 3, and their acid addition salts, are prepared by either reacting the corresponding ketone of formula R<SP>1.</SP>CO.CHR<SP>2</SP>.(CH 2 ).(CH 2 ) n -X, where X represents an active radical, with an N-unsubstituted N<SP>1</SP>-carboalkoxy piperazine or when n is 1 in the above Formula I by reacting the corresponding ketone of formula R<SP>1</SP>.CO.CH 2 R<SP>2</SP> with the piparazine derivative in the presence of formaldehyde or substances capable of producing formaldehyde. Therapeutic composition, in the form of tablets, coated tablets, emulsions, suspensions or solutions, contain the above novel compounds or their pharmacologically acceptable acid addition salts as the active ingredient. The compositions, which can be administered orally or parenterally, can be used as sedatives, analgesics or hypotensers.
