Abstract

1,150,020. Ingot strippers. ADAMSONALLIANCE CO. Ltd. 20 Nov., 1967 [24 Nov., 1966], No. 52643/66. Heading B3F. Ingot stripping apparatus comprises a ram 14 which is initially moved by an hydraulic motor-driven screw device to strip an ingot from a mould until the hydraulic motor stalls, whereupon hydraulic fluid is applied to a piston to apply a higher stripping force to the ram 14. The apparatus comprises a central shaft 4 driven by an hydraulic motor 7 and having a splined head 8 that rotates an axially movable internally and externally screw-threaded nut 11 to move a sleeve 12 which carries the ram 14. The internal thread of nut 11 moves axially a further sleeve 9, the top end of which carries a piston 25 movable in a cylinder 26. In operation tongs 22 grip the mould and the ram 14 is lowered on to an ingot until the hydraulic motor stalls, whereupon pressure fluid is diverted to the cylinder 26 and the piston 25 is moved downwards. If the ingot is still stuck in the mould, further rotation of the shaft raises the piston to the top of its stroke and another downward stroke can be performed. The apparatus can be used for pushing down an ingot or for pulling up an ingot. Extractor jaws 31 are used in this latter operation and they are closed on to the ingot by the retraction of a member 27 so that slides 30 move along guides 29 to pivot the jaws 31.
