Abstract

1,149,951. Coating metals. IMPERIAL METAL INDUSTRIES (KYNOCH) Ltd. 16 Dec., 1966 [5 Jan., 1966], No. 507/66. Heading B2K. [Also in Division C7] Copper base alloys, which are susceptible to red staining, are provided with a film of an alkaline salt containing one of the aluminate, stannate, zincate, tungstate or molybdate anions, prior to heating to the heat treatment temperatures. The salt, preferably of an alkali metal, may be applied as an aqueous solution, optionally containing a wetting agent and preferably to the warm alloy or may be incorporated in the lubricant (e.g. a soap) during fabrication of the alloy into an article.
