[Also in Division A5] The invention comprises N-trichloromethanesulphenyl - N - trifluoromethyl - 2 - methyl- 5-nitroaniline of formula It may be prepared by reacting N-trifluoromethyl - 2 - methyl - 5 - nitroaniline with perchloromethylmercaptan of formula ClSCCl 3 in the presence of a tertiary amine and optionally in the presence of an inert solvent. Suitable tertiary amines are, for example, trimethylamine, triethylamine, dimethylaniline, diethylaniline and pyridine. Suitable solvents are, for example, benzine, toluene, benzene, diethyl ether, dioxan and ketones.
