Abstract
1,149,775. Resistors. ASSOCIATED SEMICONDUCTOR MFRS. Ltd. 21 Sept., 1966, No. 42146/66. Heading H1S. The impedance of a thin (nickel-chrome) film resistor 5, 4, 6 is adjusted to a desired figure by removing a portion of the film by erosion, using a radio frequency alternating current from oscillator 1 passing into the resistor through probe 3, the impedance being monitored at least during the erosion process 2 using an additional (direct) current passing through the resistor. The monitoring current passes through the resistor, and filters 12, 13 into a bridge measuring arrangement 10 containing a standard resistor the value of which is compared with that of the resistor 4, 5, 6. When balance is achieved, or when the impedance of the resistor 4, 5, 6 is within a predetermined percentage of that of the standard resistor, an output signal is applied through lead 14 to cut off the oscillator 1. The resistors may be made with a zero aging characteristic as described in Specification 1,147,340. Various standard resistors may be switched into the bridge circuit if a number of different resistors are being adjusted.
