Abstract

1,073,189. Measuring variation of resistance with voltage. ELECTRONIC INSTRUMENTS Ltd. March 18, 1965 [Dec. 19, 1963], No.50160/63. Heading G1U. A resistance measuring apparatus arranged to determine the variation of high resistance with applied voltage, and wherein a voltage source is connected by way of the resistance to a current sensitive device, comprises a common control which is arranged to vary both the voltage applied from the source to the resistance and the current sensitivity of the device, so that the response of the device to a given value of resistance remains constant. In one arrangement, the voltage applied to the resistance to be measured 6 is derived from a potentiometer 11 connected across a stabilized supply 10. The current through the resistance is applied to a high input impedance electrometer type D.C. amplifier 12, whose output is supplied to an indicating instrument 3. The output circuit also includes a variable resistor 13 which is included in a negative feedback path for the amplifier, so that the amplifier sensitivity may be varied. The wipers of the potentiometer 11 and resistor 13 are ganged together so that the applied voltage and the current sensitivity of the amplifier 12 will be varied inversely together. An alternative arrangement using a switched rather than a continuously variable control is described, Fig.3 (not shown).
