Abstract

1,149,572. Typewriters &c. ING. C. OLIVETTI & C. S.p.A. 8 July, 1966 [8 July, 1965], No. 30730/66. Heading B6F. [Also in Division G5] A typewriter or like printing apparatus incorporating an obliterating arrangement, comprises an ink-ribbon 1 having absorbed thereto a non-diffusable ink, and a smooth surface inscription base 6; the ribbon and base being impacted together at a printing position 11, 12 and after the matter is viewed at position B, is obliterated by an elastic roller 4 which is oscillated to press the base 6 against a support member 14. The roller 4 may be of spongy caoutchouc and is mounted on a spindle 5 which may be fitted into one of three positions in a bearing arm 18 which is oscillated about its axis to impart a rubbing to the band 6. This causes reabsorption by the ribbon 1 of the ink deposited on the band 6 formed with a non-permeable e.g. glass or metal surface. An auxiliary band 15 made of plastic material passes across the support member 14 to avoid rubbing the band 6 across the support, and a reading screen 13 may be provided with grooves for guiding the edges of the band.
