Abstract

1,149,496. Spring clips. H. SCHUCHARDT. 22 July, 1966 [24 July, 1965], No. 33214/66. Heading E2B. A spring clip comprises a springy member of elongate form shaped to define an aperture of smooth curvilinear form, the free end portions 4 of said member extending past and away from each other whereby the free ends can be urged back towards each other to expand the clip sufficiently for it to then be placed around a flexible tube when the ends can subsequently be released so that the clip will clamp the tube, the inner surface of the member describing an arc of a circle over a first portion 2 of its length on the side of the aperture opposite the free end .portion and the two remaining inner surface portions 3 which together with the first portion define the aperture describe respective arcs of circles whose respective radii intersect, subtending at their centres respective angles each of which is smaller than the angle subtended at its centre by the first mentioned arc, there being a finite spacing between the centres of the first arcuate portion and a line joining the centres of the other two portions, the centre of the first arcuate portion being disposed between said line and the first arcuate portion, the spacing being in a plane which when the clip is clamping the tube is perpendicular to the axis of the tube. The first portion 2 can subtend an angle at between 160‹ and 170‹, the spacing between the centre of the larger arcuate portion 2 and the line joining the other two centres being in the range 5% to 10 % of the radius of the larger arcuate portion 2 and the radius of the larger arcuate portion is 10% to 20% shorter than the nominal external radius of the tube for which the clip is intended. The centres of the smaller arcuate portions 3 may be disposed on the respective opposite sides of a medial line which symmetrically divides the larger arcuate portion 2 and may each be spaced from said medial line by a distance equal to 5% to 10% of the radii of the smaller arcuate portions.
