Abstract

[Also in Division F2] A clamp for an elongated body such as cable, tube or conduit, comprises a two-legged body 2 adapted to be connected to a carrier rail 1 approximately C-shaped in cross-section, the legs 3 having grooved end portions which engage by natural resilience with edge portions 5 of the rail 1, with means for spreading the grooved end portions comprising a drive pin 7 formed integrally with the clamp body, there being rupturable webs therebetween, the pin tapering at one end portion which points towards the said grooved leg end portion and the other end portion of which projects beyond the body before the clamp is used. As shown the drive pin has a constriction 12 above its tapering end portion which when the drive pin is in the position in which it spreads the legs apart is engaged by projections of the legs. To enable the drive pin to be released from the legs an abutment 13 for engagement by a screwdriver are provided. In the construction shown the bases of the grooves 4 in the legs are serrated and the edges of the portions 5 of the rail are also serrated so that when the device is in position the serrations inter-engage to prevent movement of the device along the rail. In a modification instead of the bases of the grooves 4 being serrated the end portions of the legs are serrated to engage serrations in the side walls of the rail. The embodiment shown is constructed to enable its legs to be engaged with the rail without rotation of the device but a modification is described in which the device is rotated through 90‹ to engage the grooves 4 with the edge portions 5 of the rail. In a further construction the legs instead of being spread transversely of the carrier rail by the drive pin are spread longitudinally of the rail and each leg has two grooves in opposite sides which are tilted when the legs are spread to hold the clamp in engagement with the rail. The clamps are used in pairs with the elongate body between them.
