Abstract

[Also in Division H2] A method of making an electrical contact pin from bar or wire stock 1 of substantially uniform cross-section comprises flattening a short length 3 of the stock to form a portion of reduced thickness and increased width in relation to the adjacent stock and a second step of spacing parts 7 of the flattened portion 3 in generally parallel relationship longitudinally of the stock whereby the spaced parts project externally of the peripheral envelope of the stock and are capable of resilient flexure towards that envelope. In an alternative method, the portion 3 is provided with one or more longitudinal slots (8) to form arms (9), Figs. 4 and 6 (not shown) and the portion 3 is subsequently rolled into a generally cylindrical form to present resilient arms 9 distributed circumferentially around the pin profile. Where only one slot 8 is formed the portion 3 may be left flat and the outer edges of the arms 9 convexly rounded.
