Abstract

1,148,791. Snap-action switches. TEXAS INSTRUMENTS Inc. 22 April, 1966 [26 April, 1965 (2); 30 Dec., 1965], No. 17740/66. Heading H1N. In a lever-actuated switch the resilient contact arm 68, Fig. 6, is yieldingly supported to pivot on two frame legs 56, 58 of a central terminal 54 under the action of spring-pressed roller 116 moving over a stiff actuator element 74 overlying the contact arm 68 so that it moves from a central V-shaped depression 73 between the legs 56, 58 to one of two positions (shown) at which the biasing force is to one side of the legs 56, 58. The arm 68 has limited flexing movement to produce sliding between the contacts 70, 71. A rigid breaker plate 176 beneath the arm 68 also produces a positive break if the contacts become welded. The lever 95 is pivoted on a yoke 77 enclosed within a hermetically sealed metal bellows 100. A rubber gasket 98 protects the bellows 100 from ingress of dirt. The terminals 24, Fig. 2, are soldered at flanges 38 on to metallized surfaces of ceramic or phenolic resin bushes 30 which are soldered within flanged apertures 28 of a metallic casing 18. A cup-shaped casing 46 of ceramic or phenolic resin is mounted within the metal casing and has a wall 44 for separating the contact pairs and also forming a guide at 106 for the toggle block 107. The terminals are surrounded externally by an insulator 12 and sealed with potting compound 40.
