Abstract

1,148,559. Typewriters &c. INTERNATIONAL STANDARD ELECTRIC CORP. 4 Aug., 1967 [6 Aug., 1966], No. 35858/67. Heading B6F. A platen 2 for a typewriter or the like has at each end radial pins 4 for engaging perforations in paper being fed through the machine, each pin being urged radially outwards by a spring 5 and having a transverse bolt 4a engaging cam tracks on the inner edges of two plates 6, 8, which are relatively adjustable circumferentially so that the cam tracks control the retraction and projection of the pins as the platen rotates. The cam tracks on the plates 6, 8 are identical and each comprises a circular part which, if engaged by a bolt 4a, holds the associated pin 4 in retracted position and a part which extends outwardly so as to allow the pins to move to projected position. The latter part is contained within the angle α, Fig. 3a, i.e. approximately over the range in which the paper 12 contacts the platen, and the plate 6 is held by a bar 7 engaging a fork 6a thereon so that the extended part of its track is in this position. The plate 8 can be held in one of two circumferential positions by a latch 9 engaging one of two recesses 8a. In one position of plate 8, the two cam tracks coincide so that the pins 4 are projected over the range α, whilst in the other position the pins remain retracted. If the operating range α is less than 90 degrees, the plate 8 may have more than two positions to which it could be set. The part of each bolt 4a engaging the plate 8 is slightly larger than the other part so that if the catch 9 is released the plate 8 may be rotated by rotating the platen because of the friction between the bolts 4a and the plate 8.
