Abstract

[ Also in Divisions G4 and H3] Pressure in a pipe (15, Fig. 2, not shown) may be measured by a Bourdon tube (32) to which is attached a resistance type strain gauge (33) connected in a resistance bridge (34). In another arrangement Fig. 3 (not shown), the pressure is transmitted to powdered graphite or carbon (35) in a cylinder (36) thereby varying its resistance. In a further arrangement Fig. 4 (not shown) the pressure is transmitted to a cylinder (40) containing a piston (41) biased by a spring (42). Movement of the pistons causes movement of the wiper (52) of a potentiometer (49). This may be arranged to give an exponential relationship between pressure and resistance. The variable resistance may be connected to a flasher unit (at terminals 53 and 54 in Fig. 5, not shown) to vary the flash rate of lamps on a vehicle in accordance with hydraulic pressure in the brake system.
