Abstract

Grates. - A separate grate or fire-box A, which may be open or closed, is adapted for external attachment to the front bars of an ordinary grate as shown in Fig. 4, or to be placed within it as shown in Fig. 5, being formed with a flat base and fitted with suspension hooks or arms, which may be pivoted or fixed. The air supply can be regulated by a plate or plates adjustable in front of the upper or lower portions, or both, such a plate being adapted also for use as a shelf J in front. A rearwardly-extended adjustable plate H, with an opening therein, is fitted over the top. Side and rear openings may be provided to register with the oven and boiler flues when the fire-box is in use within the ordinary grate. The lifting and adjustment of the fire-box may be effected by means of handles, or mechanically by the crank-handle R and gearing shown in Fig. 12 operating on the pivoted suspension arms F.
