Abstract

1,146,777. Water-removing composition. E. I. DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO. 14 March, 1967 [15 March, 1966], No. 12023/67. Heading B1L [Also in Division C7] A composition for removing water from solid surfaces, and/or preventing rust-formation, comprises 1, 1, 2 - trichloro-1, 2, 2 - trifluoroethane and from 0.01 - 10% by weight of a solute derived from (a) one or more monoalkyl or dialkyl phosphate esters in which the alkyl groups contain from 6 - 20 carbon atoms and (b) one or more saturated aliphatic primary, secondary or tertiary amines having a total of 6 - 20 carbon atoms in the molecule the amine(s) being present in an amount at least sufficient to neutralize the phosphate ester and not exceeding a 10% excess over the amount necessary to neutralise the phosphate ester. Examples illustrate the use of mono(tridecyl)- and bis-(tridecyl) phosphates; mono and di-oxo-octyl phosphates,; a mixture of mono and di -n-octyl and mono- and di-ndecyl phosphates, all neutralised with 2-ethyl hexylamine, and a mixture of mono-oxooctyl and di-oxo-actyl phosphates neutralised with a commercial mixture of tertiary alkyl primary amines. Surfaces which may be treated include metals, glass and plastics.
