Abstract

1,146,687. End catchers; false-twist apparatus; crimping-apparatus. ERNEST SCRAGG & SONS Ltd. 4 April, 1966 [8 April, 1965], No. 14939/65. Headings DID and D1F. Apparatus for use with a machine having a number of stations for processing yarn, comprises a tube 31 having a plurality of inlets 33 spaced to correspond to the spacing of the stations, and at which suction is set up by an impeller 29 the discharge side of which is connected to one end of the tube to blow air into this tube. By the use of the apparatus, a yarn end' inserted into an inlet at doffing or threading-up, is drawn into the tube and held tautly. A yarn trap 35 may be provided at the other end of the tube. The inlets may take various forms; each may be an aperture 57 or a tube 43; a deflector 51 may be provided upstream of each inlet; and the tube may be waisited in the region of each inlet to provide a venturi-effect. As described, the apparatus is applied to a false-twist crimper, in which each station comprises feed rollers withdrawing from a package, a heater, a false-twist device, and second feed rollers delivering to a drumdriven take-up, the tube being arranged at the level of the take-up.
