Abstract
1,146,291. Hydrazine hydrate. FISONS INDUSTRIAL CHEMICALS Ltd. 30 Nov., 1966 [7 Dec., 19651, No. 51798/65. Heading C1A. Hydrazine hydrate is obtained from an aqueous solution of a hydrazine salt by contacting the solution with a macroreticular anion or cation exchange resin. If an anion exchange resin is used the hydrazine hydrate is recovered by separating the solution from the resin; if a cation exchange resin is used, the resin is separated from the acid liberated in the process, and is then treated with an aqueous base (preferably a 4-20% by wt. solution of ammonia) to liberate the hydrazine. The ion exchange resin is preferably polystyrene or a styrene-divinylbenzene copolymer substituted for cation exchange with sulphonic, carboxylic, phosphoric or phosphinic acid groups and for an anion exchange with an aromatic or aliphatic amine or a quaternary ammonium compound. The resin is preferably used as a stationary bed in one or more columns in series, the hydrazine salt solution (which preferably contains 2-30% by weight of the salt) being passed at a temperature between 15‹ C. and the boiling point of the solution or the maximum permissible temperature for the resin.
