Abstract

[Also in Division F1] A diaphragm pump for feeding powder or granular material from a container 1 into a pneumatic conveying line 9 comprises a diaphragm 6 which is oscillated by a reciprocating piston 13 acting on a fluid 12 and a pump chamber 8 provided with a fluidizing lining 14. Fluidizing gas is fed to the base 2 of the container 1, to the lining 14 and to the entry 11 to the conveyer line 9. Gravity-actuated non- return valves 18, 19 are provided between the container 1, the conveyer line 9 and the pump chamber 8. In a modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), the valves are spring-actuated. In a further modification, Figs. 4, 5 (not shown), the pump is provided with a pair of diaphragms 6. In a further modification, Figs. 6, 7 (not shown), the pump is provided with tubular diaphragm and the balls of the non-return valve are formed of resilient material. A pair of diaphragm pumps may be operated in parallel, Fig. 8 (not shown).
