Abstract

1,145,700. Keyboards for typewriters. KIENZLE APPARATE G.m.b.H. 29 Nov., 1966 [1 Dec., 1965], No. 53318/66. Heading B6F. A key for an electronic or electromechanical accounting, data processing, typewriter or like machine can be adapted to perform several individual or additional functions, e.g. the depressed key may close electrical contacts, or the key may be locked against action by a separate electrical pulse. The key comprises a key shaft in a rectangular casing within which various contacts and locking members may be assembled so that it may be adapted for electrical interlocking or for illuminating the key itself by connecting a lamp 45. The key may also have a combination of functions so that in addition to the above, only one key at a time can be operated. The key can also be locked in depressed position by a separate electrical pulse after which the key can only be unlocked by a second key operation. The key 1, Fig. 12, is of transparent or translucent material and is fitted on to a stem 2 which is slidably mounted in a dust-proof container 3 formed with a press-on lid 6, a press-on base 4, and lugs 25 for pressing into slots 60, Fig. 7, in a keyboard plugboard 61. The plugboard 61 also has recesses provided with contacts 69 for individual connection with contact springs 14, 15, 16, Fig. 12, and with contacts 48 which through side contacts 47 and springs 46 on the lid unit 6, connect the lamp 45. Contacts 69 also provide connections to an electromagnet 10 operated to lock or unlock the key from the incoming electrical pulses. The operation of the electromagnets can be coupled together as required. In a further embodiment the stem 2 may operate several micro-switches (52) (Fig. 6).
