Abstract

1,267,087. Typewriters. INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORP. 8 July, 1969 [16 July, 1968], No. 34262/69. Heading B6F. Repeat power action, in a typewriter wherein a trigger member such as a keylever 12 depresses an operating member such as an interposer 20, to initiate movement of the operating member 20 in a direction transverse to the depression movement, is prevented by transmitting depression movement of the trigger member 12 to a lug 21 of the operating member 20 transversely through coils of a spring 60, the arrangement being such that if the operating member returns to its original position while the trigger member is in its depressed position, the lug 20 engages the spring in a direction such as to compress the spring. As shown, the arrangement is applied to a typewriter wherein depression of the interposer 20 initiates a 180 degree rotation of a filter shaft (34, Fig. 1) which drives the interposer to the left to act on combination bails (27), the interposer returning in a direction P2. Type lever machines.-In an alternative embodiment (Fig. 4, not shown) a spring (110) is mounted on an operating member in the form of a card (100) which on depression of a key lever (93) is urged into contact with a continuously rotating power roll (101) to drive an associated type lever (106). A lug (113) on the key lever (93) engages the spring (110) transversely thereof to initiate a cycle of operation, the cam (100) returning to its original position such that the spring strikes the lug in a direction causing it to compress the spring.
