Abstract

Fractional distillation apparatus for refining zinc consists of a vertical column 18 having a plurality of superposed horizontal trays 1 each provided with an aperture 2. Liquid raw zinc is fed from box 3 on to a tray situated above combustion chamber 6. Refined refluxed zinc low in cadmium and lead flows through opening 13 into collector 15, while vapours at the head of the column are collected in condenser 10.
