Polyamides are made by polycondensing (1) a mixture of cis- and trans-1,2-bis-(aminomethyl)- cyclobutane containing 2 to 75% of the cisisomer and (2) a dicarboxylic acid, e.g. adipic acid. In a modification, the material polycondensed is a salt derived from (1) and (2).
