Polyamides are prepared by reacting a dicarboxylic acid component comprising 1,10- decane dicarboxylic acid with a mixture of 2,2,4 - trimethylhexamethylene diamine and 2,4,4 - trimethylhexamethylene diamine. The 1,10-decane dicarboxylic acid may be mixed with up to 50% by weight of another dicarboxylic acid e.g. adipic acid, methyl substituted adipic acids, sebacic acid and terephthalic acid.
