Abstract

1,144,613. Sewing. ELLISON TUFTING MACHINERY Ltd. 9 Feb., 1968 [25 Feb., 1967], No. 9118/67. Heading DIG. In a tufting machine three heights of tufted loops are produced under the control of a pattern device comprising two banks of photocells A, B which are activated by sources 8 of infra-red or visible radiation. The bank A operates by reflected radiation from a pattern drum 3 and the bank B by transmitted radiation the third alternative being produced by a radiation absorbing area on the pattern drum 3. In a modification the pattern drum is replaced by a continuous band running around two rollers.
