Abstract
1,144,076. Bundling bricks; pallets. SIGNODE CORP. 22 March, 1967 [13 June, 1966], No. 13451/67. Headings B8C and B8H. In order to produce a compact stack of bricks, the stack is vibrated, whilst under compression, to remove adhering kiln sand, and protuberances on the faces of the bricks. In the form shown, contiguous stacks of bricks 22 intermittently advanced on to a vibrating pad 42, are aligned and compressed between a moving plate 72, and a fixed plate (70), Fig. 3 (not shown), either side of the conveyer track. After the initial compression, the stacks are advanced to a strapping station S where a band 14 is applied by a machine 30. During this operation the stack, held compressed between bars 106 and rollers (100), rests on the forward end of the vibrating pad. The vibration at this station also facilitates tensioning of the band around all four corners of the stack. The stacks are then advanced to a further station where corner protectors 16, applied as a continuous strip under tension at a previous station, are severed to produce individual stacks or multiple stacks. Bricks are removed at 18, to facilitate handling by a fork lift truck.
