Abstract

1,143,509. Forced flow steam boilers. ELECTRODYNE RESEARCH CORP. 31 Oct., 1967 [19 Jan., 1967], No. 49423/67. Heading F4A. In a forced flow boiler with forced recirculation at start-up and low output, the feedwater is fed through branches 4 containing proportioning orifices 60 to separate compartments A . . . D of a header 5 each of which supplies a group of evaporation tubes 6, the recirculated fluid being fed through pipe 48 to mix with the feedwater downstream of the orifices 60. During start-up valve 9 is closed to disconnect the superheaters 10, 11, and the fluid passes through pipes 42, 52 to recirculation pump 44. After a warm-up period valve 58 is opened to suppy fluid through heat exchanger 50 in the line 52 to the superheaters 10, 11, to provide dry steam for warming up the turbine line 12. If the temperature in the pipe 48 becomes excessive, thermostat 73 opens valve 72 to mix feedwater from line 71 with the recirculated fluid in chamber 43. Each branch line 4, Fig. 2B, feeds into a chamber 62 having orifices 66 opposite the inlets of tubes 6, the recirculation line 48 opening into a chamber 68 surrounding the chamber 62.
