Abstract

1,143,224. Cleaning and pickling metals. KOVOFINIS NARODNI PODNIK. Feb. 21, 1966 [Feb. 24, 1965], No.7425/66. Heading C7E. Metal members, e.g. wires or strips are degreased, rinsed or pickled by passing a fluid e. g. a mixture of steam and a chemically active solution over the member at a speed greater than the critical speed, whilst in a chamber. The chamber or the nozzle through which the fluid is introduced or the metal member may be heated. As shown in Fig. 1 the metal wire 1 is passed through chambers 4, while the cleaning medium passes in opposite directions through Venturi nozzles 3. Each chamber may have several Venturi nozzles (see Fig. 5, not shown). Alternatively, the fluid may be introduced at one end only of the chamber (see Fig. 2, not shown). The expanding component of the fluid which produces the greater than critical speed may be introduced separately from the active component of the fluid.
