Abstract

1,143,078. Valves. Y. KUZE. 4 May, 1966 [13 May, 1965; 17 June, 1965; 21 July, 1965; 11 Oct., 1965], No. 19631/66. Heading F2V. [Also in Division G1] A thermostat for use in the cooling systems of vehicle engines comprises a movable valve member 13 co-operating with a seat 5, the member 13 being actuated by a temperature responsive actuator having an outer container 10, an open ended guide member 18 mounted within the walls of the container and spaced therefrom, a rubber sealing plug 20 inserted in one end of the member 18 and a push rod 23 inserted in the other end, and a wax filling 22 sealed within the space inside the container 10. An anti-chafing disc 25 is interposed between the rubber plug 20 and the push rod 23, and the plug and corresponding end of the member 18 are conically shaped, the plug being held in place to effect a seal by a rib in the base of the container 10. The thermostat is mounted between the cylinder head 3 of the vehicle engine and a box connection 4, and the push rod is secured to a fixed bridge member 6 of the thermostat by a screw member 24. A further bridge 8 forms a seat for a spring 12 which urges the valve member 13 on to its seat 5 until such time as the wax filling 22 expands and opens the valve, a guide aperture 9 being formed in the bridge 8 to allow movement of the container 10 on such expansion.
