In a sugar-cane diffuser in which bagasse on an endless conveyor is sprayed with water and sugared solutions are collected underneath the conveyor, the conveyor chain assembly is made up of a plurality of elongated, perforated rectangular slats extending transversely of the diffusion path and secured to an endless chain. The slats may have integral projection members to secure the cane in its horizontal flow. Means for loading, heating and discharging cane are described.
