Abstract

1,141,818. 11-Dehydro-steroids. GLAXO LABORATORIES Ltd. 19 Jan., 1968 [8 Feb., 1967], No. 42222/66. Heading C2U. 1l-Dehydro-12-unsubstituted sterioids are prepared by reacting sulphonyl hydrazones of 12-keto-steroids with a strong base in a non- hydroxylic organic solvent. Suitable sulphonyl hydrazones are derived from sulphonyl hydrazines RSO 2 NH.NH 2 where R is a C 1-10 hydrocarbon radical. Suitable solvents are N,N-dimethylformamide, N-methylpyrrolidone, acetamide, N,N-dimethylacetamide and diethyleneglycol diethyl ether, and bases which may be used include alkali metal alkoxides, hydrides, acetamides, amides and hydrocarbon derivatives. Examples describe the conversion of hecogenin acetate 12-p-toluenesulphonylhydrazone and methanesulphonyl hydrazone to 5x, 25D-spirost-11-en-3#-ol, and the use of sulphonyl hydrazones of botogenin, and 3#-hydroxy- 5α - pregn - 16 - ene - 12,20 - dione and 3#- hydroxy - 5α - pregnane - 12,20 - dione and their 3#-acetates and 5#-isomers is also referred to. Hecogenin acetate 12-methanesulphonylhydrazone is prepared from the 12-one and methanesulphonylhydrazine.
