Abstract
636,594. Scaffold clamps. HAAS, C. July 27, 1945, No. 19302. [Class 20 (ii)] A clamping device for use in erecting scaffolding consisting of tubes substantially rectangular , in crosssection comprises the combination of two U-shaped clamps in the form of cradles b adapted to embrace the tubes with a substantially flat clamping plate p for each cradle for imparting clamping pressure to the tubes to be secured in said cradles and a fixing screw and nut releasably securing the clamping plate. Each clamping plate p is hingedly mounted at pl on one of the side arms of its cradle and is detachably connected to the other side arm by having an open slot into which the fixing screw v enters, this fixing screw being pivoted to the other side arm at v<SP>1</SP> and clamping pressure being exerted by the nut e. The two cradles are hingedly connected at a and the tubes T and T<SP>1</SP> may be turned about the hinge pin. The cradles may be riveted together back to back, in which case their relative position is fixed, or a filler block f may be interposed, surrounding the rivet r, giving the tubes T and T<SP>1</SP> a variable angular relationship in parallel planes. The tubes T and T<SP>1</SP> may also be clamped together co-axially end to end, Fig. 4, in a common cradle b with a separate clamping plate p for each tube.
