The guide vanes 9 of a hydraulic pump-turbine are pivotally adjustable by means of an actuating ring 4 movable about the machine axis by circumferentially spaced pistons (22), Figs. 1, 3 (not shown) attached to the ring and slidable in compartments forming segments of an annular space defined by fixed walls 1, 2, 3. The compartments are bounded by circumferentially spaced partitions (25) screwed to wall 3. Control liquid is supplied to either side of each piston (22) through pipes (19 or 20) from a regulating unit (21).
