Abstract

1,202,430. Air pumps. ROBERT BOSCH G.m.b.H. Nov. 22, 1967 [Nov. 26, 1966], No.53058/67. Heading F1N. An air or vacuum pump comprises a piston 15 reciprocable in a cylinder 5 by the co-operation of cam surfaces on the opposed faces of discs 23, 19 relatively rototable so that their combined axial length alternately increase and decrease to cause reciprocation of the abutting piston 15. The piston 15 is maintained in continuous contact with the disc 19 by springs 17 guided by pins 18 secured to a cover 8 closing the cylinder 5. As shown, the cylinder 5 is secured to a belt pulley 2 of a vehicle electric generator (not shown), whereby the cylinder 5, the piston 15 and the disc 23 all rotate with the pulley, while the disc 19 is held stationary by a hose connected to a pipe 28 extending radially from an axial stub 21 of the disc 19. Passages 26, 27 in the stub 21 open into curved grooves 30<SP>1</SP> which sequentially communicate with two axial bores 31 in the rotating piston 15 thereby to control the supply and discharge of air to the working space 32.
