1,141,480. Door weather excluders. A. R. TURNER. 23 Dec., 1966 [5 Jan., 1966; 9 March, 1966], No. 57713/66. Heading E1J. A hinged flap device for closing the gap between the bottom of a closed door and a tread surface, such as a sill or step comprises extruded mounting plate 30 in cross section having one rounded end 33 and a shoulder 34 at its other end and extruded flaps 31 in crosssection having a socket 36 at one end receiving the rounded end 33 to provide a longitudinally continuous hinge for the flap and a main portion 37 providing a tread surface with the other end positioned to rest on the shoulder 34 when the flap is in the down position, and further having a projection 39 to be enjoyed by a pelmet 40 attached to the adjacent surface of the door, so that when the door is closed the pelmet pushes the projection 39 and causes the flap 31 to pivot about the edge hinge 33-36 to turn up against the pelmet and close the gap, and when the door is opened the projection 39 will be freed from the pelmet and allows the flap to return to its initial inoporative position. Alternatively the flap may carry the rounded edge and the mounting plate the socket in which case the mounting plate may be widened to include a sill (Fig. 6) with a flanged edge to pass over the edge of a step and the device may be used with a vertically sliding door (Fig. 11).
