Ether waxes are made by reacting a glycidyl ether of an aliphatic alcohol containing 16 to 30 C atoms, with an aliphatio monohydric alcohol containing 12 to 30 C atoms and/or with an aliphatic polyhydric alcohol containing 2 to 6 C atoms and 2 to 6 hydroxyl groups. Preferably, the reactants which may be present in equimolar to equivalent amounts, the glycidyl ether reactant preferably exceeding the specified amount by a quantity ranging from 1% to 10% by weight, are heated to a reaction temperature of 50‹ C. to 300‹ C. in the presence of an acid or base catalyst and an inert solvent or diluent.
