Abstract

1,140,286. Selective printing. INTERNATIONAL STANDARD ELECTRIC CORP 31 March, 1967 [7 April, 1966], No. 14848/67. Heading B6F. A selective printer includes a rotary carrier 3 mounted fast on a shaft 4 and provided with an array of radial type-bars 5 which in their inoperative position rest on a support 6, whereby the disposition of the centre line Y of the shaft 4 with respect to the platen 1 is such that it makes a tangent with the platen at the point of impact of the type character 5a on the free end of the type-bar 5. In operation a type character is selected by a control mechanism 12 which deflects a shuttle 8a on the one end of a bell-crank lever 8 whose other end is provided with a gear segment meshing with a like gear segment on the type-bar 5 adjacent its pivot, the shuttle 8a then cooperating with a stationary impression cam 9. Type-bar 5 is restored under centrifugal force and assisted by a stationary restoring cam-plate 10 (Fig. 2). Platen arrangements.-In an embodiment (not shown) the platen may rotate about a vertical axis and the axis of rotation of the carrier 3 is disposed to pass through the impact point of the type-bars 5.
