Abstract

114,017. Grinsted, W. H. March 13, 1917. Relays, repeaters, and translators, non-circuitclosing.-To prevent " howling " in a relay having a local input circuit and a local output circuit, equal and opposite electromotive forces are set up in the input circuit by the currents in the output circuit. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 1, the input circuit is connected to the lines 1, 2 by transformers P<1>, I' P<2>, I<2> while the output circuit is connected to the lines by transformers 0', S'; O<2>, S<2> connected in such a manner that the electromotive forces induced in the input circuit by the currents in the windings P', P<2> derived from the transformers O<1>, S<1> ; O<2>, S<2> are equal and opposite. In the modification shown in Fig. 2, two transformers are provided, each of which has a winding P' or P<2> in the line, a winding I<1> or I<2> in the input circuit, and windings O<1>, O<2> connected in parallel in the output circuit.
