Abstract

1,140,066. Salts of organic acids. HARDMAN & HOLDEN Ltd. 6 Sept., 1966 [6 Sept., 1965], No. 37965/65. Heading C2C. [Also in Division C5] The invention relates to oil-soluble basic carboxylic acid salts of the formula in which X denotes carboxylic acid radicals, Ar denotes an aryl radical and M<SP>1</SP> and M<SP>2</SP> are metals selected from calcium, barium and magnesium, the salts containing two of these metals. The salts are obtainable by reacting a basic carbonate salt of one of the specified metals with a carbonated phenoxide or phenoxide-alkoxide of another of the specified metals. The reaction may be effected in mineral oil. Examples are given of the manufacture of phenoxy naphthenates of calcium and barium, of calcium and magnesium and of magnesium and barium. The products are useful as lubricating oil additives and as stabilizers for vinyl halide resins.
