Abstract

1,139,372. Mineral-mining machines. GEBR. EICKHOFF MASCHINENFABRIK U. EISENGIESSEREI m.b.H. 3 Jan., 1967 [12 Jan., 1966], No. 257/67. Heading E1F [Also in Division G3] A mining machine of the type arranged to be advanced by hydraulic mechanism including a pump controlled by an electromagnetic valve 44 comprises a number of electric motors such as 1, 2 each driving a cutting tool, and is provided with a control system for adjusting the output of the pump in dependence upon the load current taken by the motors. As shown, a signal proportional to the load current taken by motor 1 is derived from a transformer 3 and is compared with a reference voltage in a transistorised comparator circuit 5 which produces an output to energise a relay 21 if the load current is below a predetermined value, or an output to energise a relay 19 if the current is above the said value. Relay 19 has a normally open contact 23 and a normally closed contact 25, and relay 21 has a normally open contact 27. A sensing transformer 4, a comparator 6, a relay 20 with contacts 24, 26, and a relay 22 with a contact 28 are similarly associated with the motor 2. The contacts 25, 27, 28, 29 are in series with the "increase output" winding 34 of the valve 44, and the contacts 23, 24 are in parallel with the "decrease output" winding 37 of the valve 44 which is powered from a supply derived from a transformer 30. In operation, if both motors are loaded below their rated values, relays 21 and 22 are energised so that contacts 25, 27, 28, 29 are closed and the valve 44 thereby energised to increase the pump output, whereby the speed of advance of the mining machine is increased. Should one motor, say motor 1, thereby become, overloaded comparator 5 will produce an output to energise relay 19 instead of relay 21, contacts 25 and 27 will open, and contact 23 will close thereby to interrupt the "increase output" circuit of the pump 44 and to close the "decrease output" circuit, whereby the speed of advance of the mining machine is reduced and the machine is protected against overloading of any of its cutters.
