[Also in Division H2] A jib-crane in which electric motors raise the load and luff and slew the jib has contactors for the motors controlled by manuallyoperated switches and a compound-wound generator driven by an internal-combustion engine for supplying electric power. The engine has a device for controlling its speed and hence the generated voltage, and the generator has a voltage responsive relay which prevents the manually-operated switches actuating the contactors when the voltage exceeds a predetermined value. If a manual switch is operated when the generator voltage is too high, a relay switches a resistance into the field circuit of the generator to lower the voltage, whereupon the voltage responsive relay becomes inoperative and the appropriate contactor is operated by the manually-operated switch. Fig. 1 shows a circuit diagram of the control system.
