Abstract
1,139,222. Alarm clocks. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Sept. 12, 1966 [Oct.18, 1965] , No. 40614/66. Heading G3T. An alarm clock control mechanism comprises a rotatable alarm time set gear 28, the position of which is adjusted by a pinion 32 and a spindle 34, and a lever 48 frictionally connected to the gear 28, the lever having teeth 76 which engage a gear 78 so that the lever may be moved to one of several pre-selected positions in order to vary the position of the alarm time set gear 28. The gear 28 is attached to a shaft 46 and an alarm hand 36, whilst the lever 48 is connected to the gear 28 by a friction coupling comprising a clutch disc 62, a washer 60 and a conical spring 58. A projection 64 on the disc 62 projects through a slot 66 in a supporting plate 4 and enters a recess 68 in the lever 48. On rotating a knob 82, the lever 48 may be rotated into any one of five positions defined by a detent 74 engaging recesses 70, 70 a-d, the friction coupling causing a corresponding rotation of the gear 28. With the detent 74 in the recess 70, the spindle 34 may be rotated to set the alarm to operate at any time, the gear 28 slipping against the disc 62. At the alarm time, projections 30, 38 on the gear 28 and an hour hand gear 16 respectively engage, causing a control lever 26 to release a vibrator 20 which sounds the alarm by striking a portion 24 of a synchronous motor. If it is desired for the alarm to operate at some other time, e. g. half an hour or an hour before or after the time corresponding to the existing setting, the knob 82 is rotated so that the detent 74 engages the appropriate one of the recesses 70 a-d, the friction clutch arrangement rotating the gear 28 the necessary amount. The clock may be mounted on a radio receiver.
