Abstract

1,138,936. Filling tanks. EDELEANU G.m.b.H. 17 March, 1967 [28 May, 1966], No. 12273/68. Divided out of 1,138,935. Heading B8T. [Also in Divisions A4 and F2] A tank or tanker 2 is filled with liquid fuel through a pipe 1 slidable upon which is a jacket 3 surrounded by a ring-shaped exhaust duct 4 having inlet holes 5, a gas venting pipe 9 and radial support arms 6 which rest on the flange 7 of the tank &c. inlet. A flexible plastics skirt 8 on the jacket collects gas escaping from the tank inlet. A fan 10 draws off gas from the venting pipe 9. In use, risk of explosion when filling the tank is reduced by first introducing through the pipe 1 a quantity of liquid butane. Liquid fuel is then passed through the pipe 1, and the butane, by now gaseous, is driven out to pass through the holes 5 into the duct 4, the pipe 9 and the fan 10; it may then be liquefied again for re-use.
