[Also in Division F2] A cross-cutter with rotatable cutters for transversely cutting a travelling web of paper, card or the like is characterized in that one or more cutters fastened to the periphery of a cutter drum are radially movable into and out of the cutting position by longitudinal displacement of the cutter or cutters. A rotatable drum 1, Fig. 1, is provided with fixed and movable cutters 2, 3 co-operable with a fixed cutter 4 to cut a web 5. The cutter 3 is fastened to a cutter carrier 11, Figs. 2 and 4, formed by a section of the cutter drum 1 and the division surfaces 12 between the two parts are inclined to the axis of the drum. The surfaces 12 define flanges 13, 14 in which bores 15, Fig. 5, and slots 16 are provided for receiving bolts 17 for clamping the flanges together. The bolts 17 are each formed at one end as a cylinder 19 which surrounds a piston 20 the other end of each bolt having secured thereto a ring 21 engaged by domed springs 22 which press against the flange 13. By introducing pressure medium into a pipe 23, the bolts 17 are displaced downwardly to stress the springs 22 so that the clamping force between the flanges 13, 14 is overcome and the cutter carrier 11 can be displaced longitudinally by means of a rotatable screwthreaded spindle 31, Fig. 2, which is non-displaceably supported in a bearing 32 of the cutter drum 1 and has its other end engaging a nut 33 secured to the cutter carrier 11. An adjustable stop 34 limits the longitudinal displacement of the carrier 11. In a modification, Fig. 6 (not shown), one end of each clamp bolt (17) is constructed as a piston (24) guided in a cylinder (25) secured to one, (13), of the flanges (13, 14). The domed springs (22) are arranged between the piston (24) and the flange (13). When pressure medium is introduced into the pipe (23), the clamp bolt (17) is moved downwardly further stressing the domed springs and overcoming the clamping force. In other modifications, Figs. 7 and 8 (not shown), the clamp bolts are. operable mechanically in such manner that either a taper key (26) or a toggle lever (27) effects the axial displacement of the clamp bolt (17) and thus overcomes the clamping force. For common operation of all the clamp bolts a rod (28 or 29) is provided connected to the taper key (26) or the toggle lever (27). In another modification, Fig. 9 (not shown), the axial displacement of the clamp bolt (17) is effected by means of a taper key (26) which is guided in a corresponding recess (30) in the clamp bolt. The displacement of the key (26) releases the clamping action of the clamp bolt releasing the domed springs (22).
