Abstract

1,138,067. Grain dryers. S. F. BURGHARD. 20 Dec., 1966 [20 Dec., 1965], No. 53844/65. Heading F4G. [Also in Division A2] A batch drier for grain comprises means for automatically loading the drier with a batch of grain, means for drying the grain and means for unloading the drier, in a batch drying cycle and means for automatically initiating a fresh cycle. The drier comprises an annular compartment formed between expanded metal casings 11, 12 within an outer enclosure 16 to which air heated by a burner 18 passes for radial flow through the grain to the inner casing 11 for exhaustion by a fan 15, and the feed and withdrawal of the grain by screws 14, 19 is automatically controlled. The dried grain may be automatically cooled prior to unloading and devices sensitive to dampness and temperature respectively control the means for terminating the drying and cooling steps. The drying and cooling periods are controlled by clocks.
