Abstract

1,138,003. Valves. BLEASE MEDICAL EQUIPMENT Ltd. 20 March, 1967, No. 13001/67. Heading F2V. A pressure relief valve comprises a cylindrical chamber 10, defined partly by a diaphragm 12 and partly by a metal disc 14, an inlet port 18, disposed in the cylindrical chamber wall 20, and an outlet 16 disposed in the disc 14 and formed at one end with an annular flat rim 50 which constitutes the valve seat. A valve closure disc 22, secured to the diaphragm by way of a screw 32 and brass washer 24, is biased towards the seat by a spring 44, the tension of which is adjustable by a threaded control knob 42. The central part of the diaphragm may be stiffened by a plate and the rim 50 is formed so as to have a width of between 10 and 15 thousandths of an inch. An alternative embodiment (Fig. 2, not shown), indicates an arrangement wherein the valve functions as a suction relief valve in that when the pressure existing in a suction system (104) is less than a predetermined negative pressure, gas enters the system through an inlet port (86) controlled by a closure member attached to a diaphragm and spring biased on to the valve seat.
