Abstract

1,137,997. Cleaning oil. THRIGE-TITAN A.S. 25 May, 1967 [25 May, 1966], No. 24435/67. Heading C5E. [Also in Division B2] In an installation for cleaning oil on board a ship comprising a centrifuge 1 supplied with uncleaned oil through a preheater 7, the centrifuge and the preheater with the associated piping system are built together to form an assembly in which the preheater is arranged below the centrifuge. Uncleaned oil from the ship's tank is supplied via a valved pipe 9 and a branch pipe 11 to a pump 12 which feeds the centrifuge 1 via a pipe 13, the preheater 7, a pipe 14, a valve 15, a pipe 16 incorporating a flow-meter 17 and a pipe 2. During starting of the centrifuge, until the temperature of the oil, as ascertained by a thermostat 20, is sufficiently high, the oil is recirculated through the preheater 7 via a pipe 18 and a T 19 connected to the branch pipe 11. An outlet pipe 4 for separated water from the centrifuge opens into a pipe 5 for separated sludge, the latter pipe being connected to a sludge tank 6 from which the water and sludge are periodically discharged. The preheater and sludge tank housings serve as a base for the centrifuge and associated piping. Cleaned oil flows through an outlet pipe 3 connected to a pump 22 having an outlet pipe 23 which may be connected to a service tank. A motor 24 drives the centrifuge 1 and the pumps 12, 22. A cabinet 25 contains control means for automatic periodical discharge of sludge through the pipe 5, control means for the operation of the valve 15 and control means actuated by float contacts in the clean oil service tank (when provided) for recirculation of the oil leaving preheater 7 back to pump 12 if the oil level in the service tank gets too high.
