[Also in Division B3] Apparatus for actuating a member 61, Fig. 3, such as an ejector pin in a heading machine, comprises a first lever 41 pivoted at one end 40 to a fixed frame 12 and whose other end 42 is adapted to actuate the member 61, a second lever 39 pivoted at one end 40 to the frame and whose other end 38 is engaged by driving means 37, and a third lever 53 pivoted at 52 to the frame and bearing at its ends 54, 55 upon the first and second levers thereby to transmit motion from the second to the first levers. The heading machine has a reciprocating gate G, Fig. 1, carrying one or more punches P for acting upon a workpiece in a die 62. After heading, the workpiece is ejected from the die by the pin 61 which is actuated without backlash by plunger 60, levers 41, 53, 39, adjustable tappet 36, 37, lever 26, Fig. 1, rod 21, lever 19 pivoted at 22, and a pair of cams 13, 14 on shaft 15. Lever 26 is in two parts 27, 28 interconnected by a bolt 34. Lever 53, Fig. 3, is pivoted at 52 on a slide 51 which is adjustable by a screw 48 for varying the stroke of the ejector pin 61. Slide 51 is locked in its adjusted position by nut 49. Lever 41 is biased to its inoperative position, limited by an adjustable stop 59 by a spring-loaded plunger 63. In another embodiment, Fig. 5 (not shown), the first and second levers (71), (76) are mounted on separate spaced pivots (75), (77); the lever 76 is actuated direct by cam (70) to retract the ejector pin and the latter is moved on its ejection stroke by a spring-loaded plunger 79.
