Abstract
1,136,536. Transformers and inductors. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd. 28 Sept., 1967, No. 44224/67. Heading H1T. A screw-threaded adjuster 3 co-operable with a magnetic core structure having a circular section bore for receiving the adjuster, includes a sleeve 13 of electrically insulating non-magnetic material fixedly embracing part of the length of a non-magnetic screw 11, the sleeve having a flange 14 at least at the end thereof adjacent the head of the screw, and a tubular slug 12 of ferromagnetic material coaxial with the screw and fixedly embracing the non-flanged length of the sleeve, the tubular slug having an outer diameter less than the diameter of the bore in the core structure and the sleeve flange having a portion or portions 18 to provide friction braking with the bore of the core structure when inserted therein. The sleeve may be of moulded plastics material, the screw of non-magnetic stainless steel and the slug of ferromagnetic ceramic material. A further flange 15 formed at the end of the sleeve remote from the screw head has a diameter less than that of the slug. The portion or portions 18 are side projections (Figs. 2, 3, not shown). The screw head has a flat 17 to prevent rotation of the screw in the sleeve. In a modification (Figs. 3, 4, not shown) an extension of the sleeve beyond the screw head is provided with a slot (16) for movement of the adjuster. A method of making the adjuster is described. During adjustment of the adjuster the screw moves in a nut 19 secured to the sides of the bore by moulded material 20. The screw has a coefficient of expansion matching that of the core material.
