Abstract

1,136,433. Waveguide attenuators; phaseshifters &c. ALBISWERK ZURICH A.G. 28 Oct., 1966 [8 Dec., 1965], No. 48410/66. Heading H1W. A lossy, dielectric, or ferrite member forming part of an attenuator, phase-shifter, or coupling probe, is supported within a waveguide by a wedge-shaped bar spring-urged to mate with and hermetically close a corresponding wedgeshaped slot formed in the waveguide wall and narrowing in the direction of the interior of the waveguide, whereby the bar, by sliding movement along the slot, permits displacement of the member within the waveguide, which may be filled with a gas under pressure. Member 14 is supported within waveguide 1 by the engagement of projections 13 in corresponding cavities in wedge-shaped bars 5 which are urged by springs 10 into slots 4 formed in the upper and lower walls 2 and 3 of the waveguide, the ends of the bars abutting against the side-plates 6 and 7 of an outer framework to which the springs 10 are secured. Operation of a pair of oppositely disposed screws 11 moves the outer framework, and hence the member 14, transversely with respect to the waveguide. In a further embodiment (Fig. 2, not shown) a similar arrangement is employed to move a coupling probe along the central limb of a U-shaped length of waveguide.
